Since June 2015 Cristina is the Group Chief Risk Officer for SACYR, the 7th largest infrastructure concession company in the world. She is currently based in Madrid (Spain). Prior to that, she served as Group Chief Risk Officer for Campofrio Food Group, one of the largest and leading European companies in the processed meats sector from 2009 to 2015. She began her risk management career in 2001 serving Iberia Airlines, the flag carrier airline of Spain, at the height of the events of 9/11 and she has spent her life ever since turning theory into hands on.
With more than 15 years’ experience in the field of risk and insurance management in non-financial corporations, Cristina has experienced the challenges of setting a firm wide risk management strategy firsthand, including building and overseeing complex Enterprise Risk Management and Business Continuity systems, amongst others. As a c-suite global corporate executive, her speciality lies in helping company leaders to make better key business decisions by switching from “trust your gut” to a structured and systematic approach to making those decisions.
She created in 2015 a brand new in-house project-risk management software for SACYR, making sure that every key player in the company has a saying. Her motto: “managing risks is all about knowing what keeps people up at night. Better informed people take better risk-informed decisions”. A woman ahead of her time understanding that technology can give companies an edge in these uncertain times.
She was Vice-President and Board Member of the European Risk Management Federation (FERMA) until 2018. She was elected Chair of the Scientific Committee overseeing the European Risk Management Survey project from 2012 to 2018.
Co-Founder and Board Member of the Spanish Risk Management Association (IGREA). She also served on the Board of the Spanish Risk and Insurance Association AGERS. As an early adopter of behavioral economics, Cristina started out by challenging the traditional approach of Risk Management by acknowledging the influence of behavior in the decision making processes. As a Ph.D. Risk Management researcher on the human side of risk (cognitive bias, educational, cultural aspects, etc.) she received a scientific award in 2009 and she is a published author.
She is faculty at URJC for Master in Actuarial and Financial Sciences teaching “Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)” and an active academia player as a lecturer and speaker in the risk management field.
She received the 2012 “Best Enterprise Risk Management Programme of the Year” Award of Strategic Risks.
Cristina holds a Master’s degree in Economics from UAM (Spain) and a Master´s degree in Actuarial & Finance Sciences from UCM (Spain) and she was certified in Business Continuity at the Business Continuity Institute (UK) in 2013.
